Checking in

Hi there!

I needed to take a moment to check in. 2011 is now behind us (HAPPY NEW YEAR) and it is onward & upward into 2012. I had so many experiences and milestones in 2011 and one that I’ve been most proud of is accomplishing the low to no heat & manipulation natural hair challenge that I put myself on. I learned so much about natural hair in general as well as my hair, its texture, what works for it and what doesn’t work. Continue Reading

I’ve missed my blog….

I’m finally getting a moment to catch up with my blog and give a fill in to everything that has kept me away from blogging. I’ve been m.i.a. for the last few months because I relocated from Ohio to S. Florida. I made a 1,300 mile move across country to start a new position with my company. A move that was a bit unexpected and happened really quickly.  Continue Reading

Beija-flora Naturals: Hemp Butter Creme & Creme Brulee Review

At the end of July, I was the randomly selected winner of Natural Chica’s 2 year Celebration: Beija Flor Naturals Giveaway. I was so excited to have won Beija-flor Naturals Hemp Butter Creme and Creme Brulee products, I did a quick blog post  at the time of winning, here on Lori’sNaturalLocks. I could not wait to use them and share my experiences. Continue Reading

September 11, 2011

A decade has passed since that dreadful day the world will never forget, September 11, 2001 attacks.  This day is also my birthday. Yes, I was born on 9/11. In 2001 I turned 30 and like so many others remember just about every detail of that day. Continue Reading

Today I was asked “Can I touch your hair?”

About a month ago I read an article “Can I touch it? The fascination with natural, African-American hair“. Many natural hair bloggers blogged about this article, twitter was jumping with many sharing their experiences of people touching their hair, whether they were asked or not. At the time of reading this article I hadn’t had an experience that I could actually reflect on which was related.  Continue Reading

Product Review: Taliah Waajid Enhancing Herbal Conditioner

I had to do a product review of Taliah Waajid Enhancing Herbal Conditioner. I’d never heard of it prior to going to a natural hair Meetup a few months ago where we did a product swap. This conditioner is the only thing I left with. The lady who brought it for the swap said that she’d heard a lot of good things about it though it didn’t do much for her hair. I figured, its conditioner, why not I’ll try it. It sat on the shelf of my linen closet for months; I never gave it much thought at all.

Heidi Klum on caring for her bi-racial children’s natural hair

Heidi Klum recently did an interview with Black Voices where she openly talked about the challenges she has faced with caring for her bi-racial children’s curly hair, here are a few excerpts:

“Growing up with straight hair myself, that was all I really knew how to work with.”
“Their hair definitely requires a different kind of care”

Naturally Inspiring – Angela Simmons

Earlier today Angela Simmons, Rev Run’s (of Run DMC) daughter, tweeted the following; “Just took my weave out.. Look how long my hair grew. It’s so thick !!”

as 225x300 Naturally Inspiring Angela Simmons

She has massive natural hair which looks thick, healthy and gorgeous! Whether she has grown it out intentionally or not, one of the keys that I believe in for achieving hair growth is low to no manipulation which she more than likely achieved by wearing protective styles in the form of weaves. Weather you are for or against wearing weaves there is one thing for certain, when done correctly, they serve as protective styling of your hair. I hope with all the twitter buzz and acclaim that she generated from this tweet leads her to #teamnatural. I believe that any celebrity/famous person who shows support of the natural hair community (and the natural hair movement) helps with garnering mainstream acceptance and aid in changing the negative stereotypes and views of natural hair.
