I’ve recently become a guest blogger on Beautiful Brown Girls. Check out my first guest post. Enjoy!
Do you have naturally curly/natural hair or considering to go natural? If so the one of thing for sure that is common amongst every natural hair lady is that we spend a lot of time and money trying to find the products that work best for our hair.
In addition to starting up a natural hair blog, I am an avid follower of the natural hair community. Over the last few months I had been reading about something called CurlBOX. Initially, I completely didn’t know what this was. Though as I began to find out about it, I was quite intrigued to learn of this subscription-based service for naturally curly hair care products. Then I thought what a genius idea!
CurlBOX, is an exclusive, affordable and effortless way to explore new hair care products which are delivered to subscribers each month. Monthly subscribers receive 5-7 quality hair product samples for a $20 monthly fee. In the CurlBOX you find hair care products from established brands as well as some up and coming brands.
Please share with BBG your natural hair journey? (How long have you been natural? did you transition or big chop? What inspired your to go natural?)
I’ve been “natural” since 2002. I worked in a beauty salon during college (shampooing & blow drying) and I got to see first hand how with the right products, naturally curly hair was just so beautiful. After running my hands through so many beautiful curls I knew that I wanted to see what my hair looked like since I’d been getting a relaxer since I was 6 years old.
I have big chopped three different times for various reasons. My most recent big chop was nearly 2 years ago and I kept it cut low for a while but I’m growing it out now!
Who are your hairspirations?
I love Vlogger CharyJay’s hair. I love her videos and she has so many styles to try for “type 4″ hair. I also LOVE “NeffyFroFro” over in London … Her hair is amazing. I’m a big fan of Youtube so I’m always tuning in to see what the ladies are up to and I don’t think anyone has more perfect curls than blogger Curly Nikki!
What are your go to products or what’s your holy grail of products?
I have SO many products that I use because I’m always doing something different with my hair (right now I’m wearing box braids) but my go tos are:
- Elasta QP Moisturizer Mango Butter – This is my ride or die product. I know it’s going to work no matter what.
- Carol’s Daughter Macadamia Hold & Control Smoother – I used to use Hicks Edges until I found this … This is like Hicks on steroids!
- Shea Radiance Hair Milk – If you’re rocking a braid out or twist out you can spray this EVERY day and it’s like hitting refresh on your computer.
- Ouidad Moisture Lock Leave In Conditioner – discovered this in the March CurlBOX and I’m not sure I’ve EVER seen a leave in like this … EVER.
- TALIAH WAAJID Medicated Strengthener – I work out and SWEAT a lot and my scalp can get itchy and needs to be refreshed and this is the most amazing feeling on your scalp EVER in life. I’m serious.
How did you come up with the idea for CurlBOX ? (How it all came about?)
I was chatting one morning with my good girlfriend and she showed me a few websites for monthly subscription beauty companies (makeup) and it hit me almost immediately … WE curly girls need this service more than anyone. I thought about the $40 jar of curly WHATEVER sitting on my shelf from a few years ago that I drove across the earth to find only to realize it DID NOT work. I knew that this service would be a help to many. I just didn’t realize HOW many.
Are there any product lines that you’d like to be apart of the CurlBOX service that have not yet been included?
Funny enough, we’re actually talking to many of our favorite brands and sorting them throughout the year. I’d love to have my favorite Elucence shampoo! It smells like peaches and lathers up to the gods without stripping your hair. You never know … I’m pretty good and getting products so maybe soon.
Do you have any advice to women who’d like to start their own business?
I say this all of the time but you have to honor your process. If you are the assistant right now, you should be the best assistant your company has ever seen. When you do each and every job in an excellent fashion, it grooms you for the next level much like first grade prepares you for second grade. Everyone wants to go from the bottom to the top without paying dues. There are no shortcuts in business. The other tip that I’d give is to have a sense of urgency. In this fast paced world of business people would rather work with the person that always responds (even if it’s just to say I need more time) than go with someone that keeps them waiting. Hope those tips help!
